Helen's Hope: June 2013

Tuesday 25 June 2013

June 25 2013

It is St Mary's ward round today

Her Lantus dosage has been increased to 84 units because her blood sugars are always in double figures.

Bowels are much better, still loose, not formed.  Loperamide is only given after she has opened her bowels.  Not opened yesterday so no loperamide yesterday but opened today so loperamide tonight.

The sweats are much better now and it might have been to do with hormones.

Visit with Granny Dogs and Granny Sue.  Waited until lunchtime to get her into chair.  Louise, therapy assistant, came and said they were doing a travel assessment today.  We went out in the minibus and to The Devil's Punchbowl.  She was fine travelling.   It was just so nice to be able to take her out somewhere and be semi normal, whatever normal is!

Reminded Louise about the trip to Portsmouth.

She is on an increased dose of Baclofen which means more dribbling but she will get used to it.

Visit on my own.  Helen was being got out of bed when I arrived, as requested.  She was taken to physio for an hour or so.  We watched comedy on iPad for a bit.

She is still quite dribbly today.

The charge nurse asked about the colitis and where was the diagnosis made.  They have phoned Southampton who know nothing about it.  I said it was Basingstoke where she had the flexisig and was most likely diagnosed with it there.  I told him I had made a request to view her records.  He will phone Basingstoke HDU.

Helen in bed on arrival.  Had meds & water.  Dressed, put in wheelchair and then we went outside.

Sat in sun and shade for a couple of hours.  Listened to music and watched House.

She seems quite chesty today.  Hopefully it just her not coping with secretions - she was dribbling quite a bit.  Hope it's not a sign of an infection brewing.

Feed regime

Jevity 1.5 - 500ml @ 60ml/hr starting approx 1am
Water 200ml @ 0700, 0900, 1400, 1800 & 2100
Osmolite - 700ml @ 60ml/hr starting at 1100

Blood sugars in a good range, between 4 and 10.

Dave visited yesterday.  He sent me a text me to tell me about Helen's leg shaking.  She started dribbling a lot, her head flopped forward and her leg was shaking violently.  He went and got the nurse.  Helen stopped soon after.  Nurse said they would keep and eye on her.  I posted on Brain Injury about it and Sally wondered if she was already on some anti-epileptic medication, as a lot of people with brain injury are automatically put on it.  I haven't seen any in her medication list but would ask.
